Sir John PeaceChairman
Sir John Wilfred Peace has been on our Board since April 2017.
Sir John Wilfred Peace graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and joined GUS plc in 1970, where he held several senior IT management positions. In 1980, Sir John co-founded CCN Systems (which later became Experian plc) and served as its chief executive. In 2000, he became Group CEO of GUS plc, of which Experian and Burberry were part. In 2002, Sir John was appointed chairman of Burberry Group plc, a position he currently holds. In 2006, Sir John was appointed chairman of Experian following the demerger of GUS plc, a position he held until stepping down in 2014. Sir John joined the board of Standard Chartered as deputy chairman in 2007 and became the chairman in 2009. He also chairs the Nottingham Economic Growth Board and for 10 years he was Chairman of the Board of Governors of Nottingham Trent University. He has been a Trustee of the Djanogly City Academy in Nottingham since 1999. He was knighted in 2011 for services to business and the voluntary sector. He has been appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire since July 2012. Sir John is a Member of Companions of Chartered Management Institute and a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts. He has an Honorary Doctorate from The University of Nottingham.
Fabio SbianchiChief Executive Officer (Co-Founder)
Fabio Sbianchi is our founder and Chief Executive Officer. He has been on our board of directors since our formation in 2002.
He graduated from the Sapienza University of Rome with a degree in Political Science and started his career in 1989 as a Project Manager for the Civil Registry Council of the Municipality of Rome. From 1992 to 1994, he worked as a Parliamentary Assistant at the Italian Chamber of Deputies and in 1995 he founded Tecnicom where he stayed on as Managing Partner until 1997. He then joined Viasat, working first as Project Manager of the ‘‘Viasat GSM’’ system, and then subsequently as Technical and Operational Director.
David Metzger joined the Octo Board in 2014.
David Metzger serves as Managing Director Investments of Witel AG, Zurich, Switzerland. Prior to Witel AG, David Metzger worked for Good Energies, a highly renowned renewable energy fund, where he was an investment executive and also served as CFO and Board Member of several portfolio companies. Before Good Energies, he was a senior manager at Bain & Company, focusing on strategy and private equity. David Metzger is also a member of the board of OC Oerlikon Corporation AG. David Metzger holds a Master’s degree in Business Economics from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and an MBA from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.
Derek Whitworth has been on our board of directors since 2002.
He graduated from Imperial College London with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. In 1981 he joined Rolls-Royce PLC as a Manufacturing Manager where he stayed until 1993, when he moved to Tomkins PLC as a Manufacturing Director for Hattersley Heaton. From 1996 to 2002, he worked for TRW Aeronautical Systems, initially as Operations General Manager, Engine Control and then as Vice President, Customer Satisfaction & Quality. In 2002, he left to join Pall Corp, as the VP of Operations for the Industrial Division. Subsequently, from 2005 to 2012, he was CEO and President of TMD Friction. In 2012, he became Operating Partner of Pamplona Capital Management where he works presently.
Charles Kane has been on our Board since January 2017.
He is an Adjunct Professor in Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management Group at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Mr. Kane is a certified public accountant and holds a BBA in accounting from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA in international finance from Babson College. Mr. Kane is currently chairman of the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) Foundation, where he was formerly the president. Prior to OLPC, Mr. Kane was a founding investor and CFO of Global BPO Services Corp.; CFO of RSA Security (acquired by EMC); CFO of Aspen Technology; president and CEO of Corechange, Inc. (acquired by Open Text Corp.); and CFO of Informix Software (acquired by IBM). He has also served in financial executive positions at Stratus Computer, Prime Computer, and Deloitte. Mr. Kane is the audit chairman on the boards of Progress Software (PRGS); Carbonite (CARB) and RealPage (RP). He also served on the Boards of Demandware (DWRE- acquired by Salesforce); Applix (APLX-acquired by IBM); Borland Software (BRLD-acquired by Micro Focus LTD); Netezza Corp (NZ-acquired by IBM). Mr. Kane is also on the Board and a founding member of the Hult Global Challenge and he is the coauthor of the book Learning to Change the World—the Social Impact of One Laptop per Child.
Marco Musetti joined the Octo Board in 2017.
Marco Musetti served as Deputy Head of Metals Desk for Banque Bruxelles Lambert (Suisse) S.A., Geneva (Switzerland), from 1992 to 1998, and he worked for Banque Cantonale Vaudoise in Lausanne as Head of Metals and Structured Finance Desk from 1998 to 2000. Mr. Musetti was COO and deputy CEO of Aluminium Silicon Marketing GmbH, Zug (Switzerland), from 2000 to 2007. From 2007 till 2018, he was an Investment Director at Renova Management AG. Marco Musetti has been a member of the Board of Directors of Sulzer AG, Winterthur (Switzerland), since 2011 and a member of the Board of Directors of Schmolz and Bickenbach AG, Switzerland, since 2013 and a member of the Board of Directors of United Company Rusal Plc, Hong Kong (China), since 2016. Marco Musetti has a master’s degree in management from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and a Master of Science in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science (United Kingdom).
Igor Bogachev joined the Octo Board in 2017.
Igor Bogachev has been on the Board since 2016.
With deep expertise in overseeing the innovation lifecycle, right from the drawing board through to full market commercialisation, Igor Bogachev has a rich and nuanced understanding of cutting-edge trends and developments in IT, as well as the industry's best practices and how to implement them. He has a strong standing in the national IT sector and currently chairs the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Subcommittee on the Digital Economy and Innovations. Igor was previously a Vice President at the Skolkovo Foundation, whose overarching goal is to create a sustainable ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation, engendering a startup culture and encouraging venture capitalism. He was the executive director of the foundation's IT Cluster. Before Skolkovo, he served as the CEO of SAP CIS, a position to which he advanced following 12 years at Xerox, where he was responsible for business development, sales, and maintenance service. Igor Bogachev was born in Moscow in 1971. In 1994 he graduated from the economics faculty of the Moscow Aviation Institute. He received his MBA from the Moscow International Higher Business School (MIRBIS) and London Metropolitan University. Igor is a Green Belt in the Six Sigma methodology of process improvement.
Pekka A. ViljakainenDirector
Mr. Pekka A. Viljakainen joined the octo board in 2018.
Mr. Pekka A. Viljakainen was born in Finland in 1972. For 25 years, he worked as an ambassador between business executives and technology teams. He is widely known by his nickname, Bulldozer, which he earned while handling complex governance and political topics inside large international organizations.
Mr. Viljakainen started as an entrepreneur in 1986 by establishing Oy Visual Systems Ltd., which merged with TietoEnator in 2000. He is now a member of the Strategic Board of the Russian Postal Service and the Supervisory Board of PAO “Pochta Bank”. He is also Chairman of the Board of “Skolkovo – Ventures Investments” and “ZYFRA”.
Since 2012, Mr. Viljakainen is acting as senior advisor for the president of the Skolkovo Foundation. He is also a founder and advisor of several nationwide entrepreneurship programs in the Russian Federation, such as the international conference Startup Village.
He is also a well-known supporter and philanthropic in several areas related to education, classical music and social projects. His hobbies include helicopter flying PPL(H), cross country skiing, weight lifting and triathlon.
Marco Lippi has been on our board of directors since 2014.
Marco Lippi graduated from the University of Pisa with a degree in Economics in 1985 and subsequently received an MBA from Columbia Business School in 1989. Mr. Lippi began his career as a financial analyst in IBM’s Milan offices from 1985 through 1987. In 1989 he joined Morgan Stanley in the mergers and acquisitions department in New York and later in London. In 1999, he became a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley. In 2004, he joined BNP Paribas as Managing Director where he headed Italy’s Corporate Finance division and was a member of the Global Corporate Finance Operating Committee in Paris. In 2007, he became an Advisory Director at Strategic Value Partners, a private equity and hedge fund, where he remained until 2010. In addition, in 2007, he founded Network Capital Partners, an advisory company to private equity funds. Since 2010 he has been an Operating Partner at Pamplona Capital Management and he was appointed Partner of Pamplona Capital Management LLP in 2015. He also served as a Director of Ferretti International Holding S.p.A. and Ferretti S.p.A. from 2012 until 2016 and as a Director of Alpitour S.p.A. from 2012 and 2018.
